POSITIVE SPACES

These are spaces where the local HIV community can meet in their fight against HIV. Our aim is to build a growing network of locally-led initiatives that build safe, creative, and empowering environments for people to speak openly about HIV. These spaces are designed to foster dialogue, reduce stigma, and build community resilience, especially amongst those most affected and often underserved.

An example of locally-led HIV action – an example: The BAWA Youth Initiative

In Bujumbura, Burundi, HIV Stigmafighter proudly collaborates with BAWA (Burundian Association for Women in Action) to support young women in taking the lead on health and HIV awareness. One way for them to connect in their local community is by using their photography skills, built with support of HIV Stigmafighter, to create powerful visual stories which capture the daily lives of Burundian women, sparking conversations around access to health & HIV services and stigma reduction.

Creativity as advocacy

Positive Spaces, like those created by BAWA’s young photographers, are platforms for expression. Whether through photography, spoken word, or community dialogue, we believe in the power of collectiveness and creativity to challenge stigma and inspire change. The BAWA youth exemplify this spirit, using their skills and arts to connect with peers and advocate for inclusive health & HIV services.

Building locally-led solutions

At HIV Stigmafighter we know that lasting change comes from within communities. Positive Spaces should be designed to reflect local realities, amplify unheard voices, and support people living with HIV, especially those with migrant and marginalized backgrounds. By focusing on engagement of these groups in a culturally relevant setting, we aim to transform health & HIV services from generic systems into vibrant, responsive networks of care.
