I was diagnosed with HIV in 1990. Even though I always used protection, a torn condom made my world come tumbling down. I went through years of denial, guilt, insecurity, self-doubt, anger and disgust. Ecaping into theatre life was only postponing the fact that I had to come to terms with the real problem; accepting and living with hiv.

Yet, it was only when I was struck by a heart attack that I got my wake-up call. That is when I found the courage to truly start enjoying and respecting my own creativity whilst living with hiv. I started singing from the heart.

Now, my hiv and creativity are always with me as my constant companions.
